MAIN ENDING · BRENCIS DEAL
How to Get The Turncoat Ending
To get The Turncoat, accept Brencis’s bargain and betray your allies instead of fighting him. The most direct route runs through A Deal with the Devil: agree to his offer, unlock the Manumit hideout, then complete the betrayal sequence. You can also reach The Turncoat by taking Brencis’s offer during Lacra’s finale or during A Lone Wolf’s Hunt.

The Fastest Route to The Turncoat
This is the standard A Deal with the Devil route. It is the longest setup but the most reliable one.
Step 1
Defeat Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe
Clear the three vassal targets so Brencis has a reason to deal with you instead of hunting you.
Step 2
Reach maximum Infamy and advance a day
Max Infamy triggers the edicts, and the following day brings Brencis’s parley invitation.
Step 3
Start A Deal with the Devil
This is the parley. You can hear him out here without committing to anything yet.
Step 4
Accept Brencis’s offer
Take the family branch and avoid the Sword-marked hostile lines, or the conversation turns into a fight.
Step 5
Betray the Manumits
Work through the Manumit chain until you can reach their hideout, then complete the betrayal.
Recommended: make a manual save before you start A Deal with the Devil.

If you are already on Lacra’s finale or on A Lone Wolf’s Hunt, you can take a later betrayal offer from Brencis without following the full Manumit chain above.
All Ways to Get The Turncoat
There is more than one way in. Missing the Manumit hideout does not automatically remove this ending.
Standard route
Route A — Betray the Manumits
Attend the parley, accept the bargain, unlock the Manumit hideout through Crake’s chain and complete the betrayal. This is the route players usually mean by “the Turncoat ending”.
- Quest
- A Deal with the Devil
- Finale route
- Brencis deal — Manumit betrayal
Confirmed lines
- “I just want my family back.”
Crake leads the Manumits, so this is also the Crake betrayal. There is no separate Crake route in the ending data.
Alternative route
Route B — Betray Lacra
During Lacra’s finale, take Brencis’s offer instead of standing with her. That choice records Lacra as betrayed and routes the finale into the Brencis deal.
- Quest
- Midnight Reckoning
- Finale route
- Brencis deal — Lacra betrayed
Confirmed lines
- “I accept the offer. I’m sorry, Lacra.”
This route does not require the Manumit hideout.
Alternative route
Route C — Betray at A Lone Wolf’s Hunt
In A Lone Wolf’s Hunt you can hand Brencis what he wants about Lacra or the rebels. Those offers record a betrayal and can route the finale into the Brencis deal.
- Quest
- A Lone Wolf’s Hunt
- Finale route
- Brencis deal — Lone Wolf betrayal
Confirmed lines
- “I killed Lacra.”
- “I can lead you to your sworn enemy - Lacra.”
- “The rebels failed because of me.”
- “I know where the rebels are hiding.”
Production records two betrayal targets here: Lacra and the rebels.
One line you may see quoted elsewhere
A third-party guide quotes a different Crake-side offer line. That exact line is not in the production dialogue export, so this page describes the option instead of printing it. Accept the Brencis betrayal offer when it appears.
Does Marking the Manumit Hideout Immediately Give You The Turncoat?
Not by itself. Marking the hideout starts the betrayal sequence. Treat The Turncoat as committed once the later betrayal sequence successfully resolves.
How far have you actually gone?
| Stage | Can you still back out? |
|---|---|
| You received Brencis’s parley invitation | Yes |
| You are hearing Brencis’s offer | Yes |
| You accepted the initial bargain | Yes |
| You reached the hideout decision | Yes |
| You marked the hideout | No |
| The betrayal sequence resolved | No |
Can You Still Get The Turncoat From Your Current Save?
Answer what you know. The checker only uses your own answers, and nothing is written to your Ending Calculator unless you actually committed.
Answer the questions to check your save.
Nothing answered yet.
Do You Fight Brencis in The Turncoat Ending?
Normally, no. The standard Turncoat route resolves through Brencis’s bargain rather than defeating him in the final fight.
That makes this route lighter on combat than the finale endings that end with Brencis at swordpoint. It does not make the setup shorter, because the Manumit betrayal still needs hideout access unless you use a later Lacra or Lone Wolf offer.
Confirmed lines
- “I’ve had enough of you.”
- “Enough. Time to end this.”
- “It’s time to kill you.”
Is The Turncoat the easiest main ending?
Mechanically it can be one of the easier ones because the standard route does not end in the Brencis fight. It is not automatically the fastest, because the Manumit chain is a long setup.
Want to fight him instead? The Folk Hero →
Is The Turncoat the Same as In the Nick of Time?
No. The Turncoat is an ending achievement. In the Nick of Time is awarded for rescuing your family before the deadline. They can unlock on the same run, but they are different achievements with different conditions.
| Achievement | Type | What it needs |
|---|---|---|
| Ending achievement | Ending-specific | Finish the story on the Brencis deal route |
| Family rescue | Family rescue | Rescue your family before the deadline runs out |
| Story completion | Story completion | Finish the story on any route |
Achievements are tracked separately from endings, so earning one does not require the other.
Does Esme Have to Survive for The Turncoat?
No. Nothing in the ending data makes her survival a Turncoat requirement.
Family and Esme states are recorded as consequences of the hostile parley fight, not as conditions for the deal. Keep her alive if you are also chasing the family-rescue achievement, but do not treat it as a Turncoat requirement.
Where Should You Save Before The Turncoat?
Two saves cover this ending; a third save covers several endings at once.
Save 1 — before the Brencis parley
Use this to compare The Turncoat against The Folk Hero. Attacking him here sends you toward the solo fight instead.
Save 2 — before the final betrayal
Use this to commit or back out of the hideout betrayal without replaying the whole Manumit chain.
Master finale save
If Lacra’s route, the Manumit chain and A Deal with the Devil are all ready, keep one save before the final lock. Reloading it lets you clear several main endings including this one.

How do you get The Turncoat ending?
Accept Brencis’s bargain and complete an ally betrayal. The standard route is A Deal with the Devil, then the Manumit hideout betrayal.
Do you need to mark the Manumit hideout?
On the standard A Deal with the Devil route, yes. You need to reach the hideout and let the betrayal sequence resolve.
Can Lacra’s route become The Turncoat?
Yes. Taking Brencis’s offer during Lacra’s finale records her betrayal and routes the finale into the Brencis deal.
Can Crake’s route become The Turncoat?
Crake leads the Manumits, so the Manumit hideout betrayal is the Crake betrayal. There is no separate Crake betrayal state in the ending data.
Does accepting Brencis immediately lock The Turncoat?
No. The first conversation does not commit the ending. Marking the hideout starts the commitment sequence.
Can you back out at the hideout?
Yes. Choosing Leave does not write the deal completion fact, so you can still walk away.
Do you fight Brencis in The Turncoat ending?
Normally no. The standard route resolves through the bargain instead of the final fight.
Is The Turncoat the easiest main ending?
It can be easier on combat because the standard route avoids the Brencis fight, but the Manumit chain is still a long setup.
Is In the Nick of Time the same ending?
No. In the Nick of Time is a family-rescue achievement; The Turncoat is an ending achievement.
Can you get The Turncoat and In the Nick of Time together?
Yes, if you also rescue your family before the deadline. The two conditions are separate but can be satisfied on the same run.
Where should I save?
One save before the parley, and one before the final betrayal. A master finale save also lets you reach the other main endings.
Can you still get The Turncoat if you missed the Manumit route?
Possibly. A later betrayal offer during Lacra’s finale or A Lone Wolf’s Hunt can still route you into this ending.
