A Deal with the Devil Walkthrough
Quick answer
A Deal with the Devil has two main finale routes.
- Fight Brencis → The Folk Hero route, but your family is at severe risk.
- Take the deal → keeps The Turncoat route open and continues toward the Manumit hideout.
Going to the parley does not commit you to Brencis — the deal route is only committed later, when the Manumit hideout betrayal sequence is completed.
Which Route Do You Want?
Fight Brencis
Reject the deal and start the fight. This locks you out of the deal route and is the path to The Folk Hero.
- Ending route
- The Folk Hero
- Family risk
- Your family is executed on this route
- Deal committed yet?
- Rejected
- Reversible
- Only by reloading an earlier save
Take the Deal
Continue the conversation and keep the deal route available. Nothing is committed yet — the Manumit hideout decision decides that.
- Ending route
- The Turncoat remains possible
- Family risk
- Can survive
- Deal committed yet?
- No
- Next major decision
- Find the Manumit hideout
Make a Manual Save Before the Parley
This is a finale branch, not a side objective. If you want to see more than one route without replaying the campaign, make a Manual Save before you commit to Brencis's dialogue choices.
Autosave can be overwritten as you keep playing. A Manual Save is the copy you control.
How manual saves work →Route map
Parley
Fight → The Folk Hero
Accept the deal → Save Pieter → Find the Manumit hideout
Leave → Not committed yet
Mark → Betrayal sequence → The Turncoat
How to Unlock A Deal with the Devil
This is an ending quest, so it waits until the valley's power has shifted. If it has not appeared yet, the checklist below is where most players get stuck.
Reported unlock pattern
- Defeat the three Boyars — Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe.
- Raise your Infamy to the state the court expects.
- Advance to the next day so the invitation can fire.
- Receive Brencis's parley message.
- Go to Shrike's Crag at night.
Current walkthroughs describe this chain. Treat it as the pattern to check, not a step-by-step in-game confirmation.
Confirmed by the game data: the parley itself is a night objective at Shrike’s Crag.
Quest Not Appearing?
A quest that never appeared is a different problem from a parley that will not start. Fix the unlock first, then check the parley below.
Meet Brencis at Shrike’s Crag
Yes, if you want to keep the Brencis finale routes available.
Going to the parley does not force you to complete his deal. Your dialogue choices at the meeting, and the later Manumit hideout decision, are what actually commit you. If you are still deciding, attend — then choose.
Parley requirement • NightAttending the parley is not the same as accepting the deal
- Travel to Shrike’s Crag.
- Go at night.
- Climb the tower.
- Light the signal fire.
Light the Fire Signal During the Night
Once you are at Shrike’s Crag on the parley objective, light the fire signal during the night to bring Brencis out. If the objective is not asking for the signal yet, finish the previous step first.
Unsure whether to meet Brencis?Open the Parley Decision Guide →
Brencis is not at Shrike’s Crag?
- ✓ The quest is active and the parley objective is the current step.
- ✓ It is night.
- ✓ You reached the Shrike’s Crag objective marker, not just the region.
- ✓ The fire signal objective is available.
Which Dialogue Options Lead to the Deal?
The parley is where the route is decided. A hostile answer ends the conversation and starts the fight, so the deal route is about staying in the conversation.
If you want The Folk Hero
Choose a hostile response. These confirmed lines start the fight:
- “I've had enough of you.”
- “Enough. Time to end this.”
- “It's time to kill you.”
If you want the deal route
Avoid the responses that start a fight and keep the conversation going. The game marks the options that turn the scene hostile, so read each line before you pick it.
The fight only starts when you choose one of those hostile lines. Walking away from an earlier step does not start it for you.
The Folk Hero Route: Fight Brencis
Reject the deal and defeat Brencis in the parley confrontation. This is the shorter of the two finale routes, and it is the expensive one for your family.
- Ending route
- The Folk Hero
- Family risk
- Your family is executed on this route
- Deal committed yet?
- Rejected
- Attend the parley at Shrike’s Crag at night.
- Choose one of the hostile lines instead of hearing him out.
- Defeat Brencis in the fight.
- Continue the family objectives that appear on this route, including Save Pieter.
Family cost
If you fight and win this way, Brencis does not return — his soldiers execute your family. That is a recorded outcome of this quest, not a guess.
Recorded reward on this outcome: 250 Base XP.
What Happens to Your Family If You Fight Brencis?
This is a two-way answer, and both sides are recorded in the quest’s own outcomes.
If you take the deal
Brencis keeps his word and lets your family go. He turns on the Manumit hideout instead. Your family survives.
If you fight him at the parley
Brencis does not return, and his soldiers execute your family. Vale Sangora is free, but you lose everyone.
If you cannot remember which route you took, check your latest save and your journal outcome before assuming either result.

The Turncoat Route: Accept the Deal
Hear Brencis out, then complete the Manumit hideout route and mark the hideout for him. This is the route where your family comes back alive.
- Deal committed yet?
- No
- Next major decision
- Find the Manumit hideout
- Family risk
- Can survive
- Attend the parley at Shrike’s Crag at night.
- Hear Brencis out instead of choosing a hostile line.
- Progress the Manumit thread and reach the hideout objective.
- Mark the hideout when the game offers the choice.
- Finish the betrayal sequence that follows.
Recorded outcome: Brencis keeps his word and lets your family go.
Recorded reward on this outcome: 300 Base XP.
Save Pieter
Does anything you say to Pieter change the ending?
No major ending commitment is made in this conversation; the critical decision comes later at the Manumit hideout.
Objective
Save Pieter is a recorded objective of this quest, on the family-consequence side of it.
Where
Follow the active Pieter objective marker. The exact route is not public yet, so do not search the whole region blind.
Why it matters
This objective sits on the same family thread as the parley decision, so finish it before you move the day forward.
Not progressing?
Confirm the Pieter objective is the current step and that you are on the fight/family side of the quest. If it will not update, update the game first, then check the Troubleshooting Hub.
How Do You Find the Manumit Hideout?
The hideout objective belongs to the deal route only. If you fought Brencis at the parley, this section does not apply to you.
The Manumit thread
The hideout sits inside the Manumit quest line. If you have not met the Manumits yet, progress these quests first:
Where Loyalty Lies also asks you to raise your notoriety before the Manumits will trust you.
Then follow the active “find the location of the manumit hideout” objective. The Mark interaction appears once you reach the hideout on the deal route.
Why Isn’t the Hideout Mark Appearing?
- You are on the Brencis deal route.
- The Manumit hideout has been discovered.
- You progressed Where Loyalty Lies far enough.
- The Mark objective is active.
- You are there at night.
Should You Mark the Manumit Hideout or Leave?
Choose Leave if you are not ready to commit. Choose Mark only if you intend to finish the Brencis deal route.
Marking starts the commitment sequence. The deal counts as committed once the later betrayal sequence resolves.
See the full Mark vs Leave consequences →When Is the Real Point of No Return?
The parley itself is not the final commitment. You can hear Brencis out and keep the deal route open. The binding choice is the Manumit hideout sequence: Leave does not commit you, while Mark starts the commitment sequence that the later betrayal completes.

Leave → Not committed yet
Mark → Betrayal sequence → Brencis deal committed

Which Endings Does A Deal with the Devil Lead To?
This quest feeds two finale routes. Which one you get is decided at the parley and confirmed when you handle the hideout.
The Folk Hero
Reject Brencis and defeat him at the parley.
The Turncoat
Accept the deal and complete the Manumit hideout betrayal route.

A Deal with the Devil Not Progressing?
Find the exact point you are stuck at. Unlock problems and parley problems need different fixes.
Quest time cost and the night requirement
Two different things, often mixed up: the parley simply has to happen at night, while the quest itself costs time segments on the campaign clock. Night is a requirement, not a cost.

These are the game’s own objectives for this quest, kept at the bottom so the answers stay on top.

Journal summary
After I caused him a lot of trouble and showed that I'm not a man to be trifled with, Brencis decided to invite me to a parley. It was supposed to take place in the Shrike's Crag – where Skender once quelled an uprising against his reign. A trap? Maybe. But it could be an opportunity to save my family...

A Deal with the Devil FAQ
How do you start A Deal with the Devil?
Defeat all three Boyars, reach the required Infamy state and trigger Brencis’s invitation. The parley itself is a night objective at Shrike’s Crag.
Should you fight Brencis?
Fight him if you want The Folk Hero route — but your family is at severe risk on that path.
Does meeting Brencis lock the deal?
No. Going to the parley keeps both finale routes open, and nothing is committed there.
Does accepting the deal lock you into The Turncoat?
Not immediately. The deal route stays open until you mark the Manumit hideout and finish the betrayal sequence.
Should you Mark the Manumit hideout?
Only if you are ready to continue the Brencis betrayal route. Mark starts the commitment sequence.
Can you leave without committing?
Yes. At the Mark/Leave interaction, Leave does not commit the deal.
Can your family survive?
Yes, depending on the route. The deal path can preserve them; fighting Brencis at the parley puts them at severe risk.
Why can’t I find the Manumit hideout?
You need enough progress in the Manumit questline before the location becomes usable for this objective.
